Trump Snubbed! Modi, Xi Are Lula’s New Go-To Leaders in Tariff War

US President Donald Trump has imposed a 25% tariff on India, but his “friend” Brazil got hit even harder with a staggering 50% tariff. Naturally, this move has left Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva fuming. He’s made it crystal clear that he has no interest in picking up the phone to call Trump. Instead, Lula is turning to trusted allies like Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping for support.

Trump recently suggested that Lula could call him anytime to discuss the tariff issue. But Lula wasn’t having it. “I don’t want to call Trump,” he snapped. “He doesn’t even want to talk.” He went as far as calling the day the US imposed the 50% tariff on Brazil “the most regrettable day.”

In a bold move, Lula declared he’d rather reach out to other global leaders than deal with Trump. “I can call Xi Jinping. I’ll call Prime Minister Narendra Modi too. But I won’t call Putin—he’s not traveling right now. Still, I’ll reach out to other world leaders,” Lula said. His words hint at a clear strategy: rallying the BRICS nations to stand united against the US. For the uninitiated, BRICS is a powerful group that includes Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, and the United Arab Emirates. Trump has long been vocal about his concerns over BRICS’ growing influence. The recent BRICS summit in Rio de Janeiro, where six new member countries joined the fold, only seemed to fuel his frustration.
