In a bold move toward renewable energy and sustainability, Bangladesh’s leading tech giant and superbrand Walton has taken a major step to support the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The company has installed the country’s largest floating solar power plant, with a 1-megawatt capacity, at its headquarters in Chandra, Gazipur.
This landmark project marks a new era in the nation’s industrial sector—combining clean energy, environmental protection, and innovation under one roof.
Mostafizur Rahman Razu, Head of Walton’s Environment, Health, and Safety Department, described the project as “a milestone in ensuring sustainable industrial development.” He explained that Walton’s floating solar plant not only generates renewable electricity but also plays a crucial role in fish farming, land conservation, reducing water evaporation, and protecting the ecosystem.
After meeting the factory’s internal power needs, the excess electricity from the floating solar plant is supplied to the national grid through a net metering system. Razu added that the solar plant is designed to operate efficiently for the next 20 years, providing clean energy without harming the environment or aquatic life in the fish ponds.
Since its inception, Walton has been deeply committed to green and sustainable practices in its production process. The company aims for zero harm to people, the environment, and property, with a long-term vision of achieving zero net carbon emissions.
To make this vision a reality, Walton has adopted a wide range of eco-friendly measures. These include using environment-friendly gases, minimizing and recycling waste, composting, using energy-efficient technologies, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and recycling water.
Thanks to these initiatives, Walton has already managed to cut 911,823 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions and reduce its carbon footprint by 10 percent. This effort positions Walton as a model for sustainable industry and corporate social responsibility in Bangladesh.
By combining clean energy with industrial innovation, Walton is showing that progress and sustainability can go hand in hand—a shining example for industries nationwide.
