Country music star Bailey Zimmerman is facing serious legal trouble following a chaotic series of events at a New Mexico resort that left a trail of destruction and an unpaid alcohol bill. The 26-year-old singer is now the subject of an arrest warrant, facing both felony and misdemeanor charges after an alleged meltdown that caused more than $16,000 in damage .
The "Rock and a Hard Place" singer has since broken his silence, issuing a public apology as he confronts the legal consequences of the May 27 incident at the Sandia Resort and Casino in Albuquerque.
The Night of the Incident
Zimmerman had been scheduled to perform at the resort's amphitheater that evening. However, according to court documents, the hours leading up to the show were marked by erratic behavior. An affidavit alleges that the singer "appeared to be exhibiting signs of intoxication" during interactions with staff and throughout the soundcheck .
Witnesses reported that Zimmerman "stumbled onto the stage" before grabbing a guitar and smashing it on the ground. The situation reportedly escalated as he threw cymbals, kicked parts of the drum set, and allegedly pushed a guitarist. The document further claims he threw his microphone and "spit toward a Sandia security officer" before leaving the stage .
Security footage reviewed by investigators reportedly shows the country artist stumbling through the venue. When asked to leave the property, Zimmerman allegedly became "disorderly" and initially refused to get into a vehicle provided by the resort, reportedly complaining about the color of the SUV .
The concert was ultimately canceled. At the time, Zimmerman took to Instagram to explain the decision to his fans, citing health reasons. "I have not been feeling well and have tried to power through, but I’m not able to give you all the show you deserve," he wrote, adding that he needed to "take care of myself so I can get back out there stronger" .
Extensive Damage Discovered
The situation took a turn the following morning. Housekeeping staff at the Sandia Resort discovered that Zimmerman's room had been subjected to extensive damage. According to the affidavit, the destruction included a broken television and phone, a damaged coffee table, two chairs that were completely missing, and a large hole in the wall. Investigators also reported damage to the walls and stains on the carpet .
In addition to the property damage, the resort alleged that Zimmerman had charged more than $400 in alcohol to his room but failed to pay the bill before departing .
Legal Charges and Apology
Prosecutors in Bernalillo County filed criminal papers on June 18 seeking an arrest warrant for the country singer. He faces a fourth-degree felony charge for criminal damage to property over $1,000 and a misdemeanor for falsely obtaining services related to the unpaid alcohol tab .
The court records state that both resort staff and police made repeated attempts to contact Zimmerman and his team about the incident but received no response, which ultimately prompted authorities to seek the warrant .
In a statement released Tuesday, Zimmerman addressed the events directly. "First things first, I want to apologize to the Pueblo of Sandia and to everyone at Sandia Resort & Casino," he said. "I never meant for any of this to come across as disrespectful. I am deeply sorry for my actions that transpired" .
He also expressed remorse toward his fans who were left without a performance. "To my fans who bought tickets and showed up expecting a performance, I am so sorry, you deserved better from me. I understand that being a musician comes with big responsibilities, both on and off stage, and I know that I fell short that day," he stated .
The singer concluded by acknowledging the seriousness of the situation. "I am taking this legal matter seriously. I am committed to doing the work necessary to learn and grow," he wrote .
A Pattern of Behavior
This is not the first time Zimmerman has faced public scrutiny regarding his conduct. Nearly a year ago, the singer publicly apologized for a drunken performance at a music festival. He admitted at the time, "I got up on stage, and I was too drunk to play. And I sang awful, I played awful" . Following that incident, he had shared with fans that he had quit drinking, stating that the change had "truly changed my whole life" .
Zimmerman’s apology, while heartfelt, does not erase the criminal charges he now faces. His representatives have not yet commented on the status of the warrant or his upcoming court dates. The singer is scheduled to perform at upcoming music festivals, though it remains unclear whether the legal issues will impact his touring schedule .
