The Princess of Wales has achieved a remarkable physical feat, successfully completing the National Three Peaks Challenge just 18 months after her cancer diagnosis. Her younger brother, James Middleton, marked the accomplishment with an emotional message that carried deep personal significance.
James, an avid hiker himself, responded to his sister's Instagram video with a simple yet powerful comment: "So proud." Beneath a photograph showing Catherine beaming after finishing the challenge, he added two emojis — a mountain and a red heart .
The symbolism was unmistakable. When Catherine publicly revealed her cancer diagnosis in March 2024, James posted a childhood photo of the siblings on a mountain walk with a poignant caption: "Over the years, we have climbed many mountains together. As a family, we will climb this one with you too." His latest message echoed that promise, affirming he had remained true to his word .
The Princess covered an extraordinary 23 miles on foot, ascending more than 10,000 feet across Britain's three highest peaks — Ben Nevis in Scotland (4,413 feet), Scafell Pike in England (3,209 feet), and Snowdon in Wales (3,560 feet). The challenge also required 462 miles of driving between each mountain .
Catherine undertook the challenge solo, with Mountain Rescue providing support throughout the demanding route. She started on Saturday evening and completed all three summits within 24 hours . The achievement is believed to be a royal first, with no other member of the Royal Family having previously conquered the National Three Peaks Challenge .
On Sunday, the mother of three shared her deeply personal motivation for undertaking the grueling physical test, describing it as an opportunity to highlight life beyond a cancer diagnosis. "I have taken on the National Three Peaks Challenge, not simply as a physical endeavour but as a chance to explore life beyond diagnosis and to give something back," she wrote .
Catherine completed the challenge to raise funds for The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity, the hospital where she received treatment . She was greeted at the final peak by her husband Prince William, their three children, and her parents, Carole and Michael Middleton. James was also present at the base of Snowdon to welcome his sister as she descended .
The Princess, who announced she was in remission in January 2025, emphasized that healing goes beyond medical treatment. "Through this challenge, I want to raise awareness for the deeper impact of serious illness and the importance of holistic healthcare," she wrote .
