After nearly a decade without a significant overhaul, Chevrolet has officially pulled the covers off the 2027 Silverado 1500, delivering one of the most comprehensive redesigns the iconic American pickup truck has ever received. The new model arrives with a bolder exterior, two all-new V8 engines, and a dramatically upgraded cabin packed with large digital displays and class-leading technology.

Chevrolet's approach with the 2027 Silverado is to challenge Ford's dominance in the full-size pickup segment — one of the largest and most competitive automotive categories in the United States — by offering updated design, advanced technology, and more powerful engines across the lineup.

The last significant update to the Silverado occurred nearly ten years ago in 2018, making this redesign one of the most anticipated truck reveals in recent memory. The 2027 model is the second-best-selling vehicle in the United States.

A Completely New Exterior

Chevrolet Global Executive Design Director Phil Zak described the goal as creating a truck that "looks stronger and more modern with demanding presence at first glance, while staying true to the authentic truck character customers expect." The result is a truck that immediately commands attention without abandoning the rugged, purposeful identity that has made the Silverado one of America's most trusted nameplates.

The exterior has been completely overhauled with new LED headlights and taillights, more pronounced wheel opening moldings now standard across every trim, and bolder surface development visible along the sides of the bed and rocker panels. A standout styling detail is the new three-foot-wide center brake light positioned at the rear.

Standard dual exhaust now runs from the Custom trim upward, replacing the fake exhaust cutouts that appeared on outgoing models — a change that delivers a significantly cleaner and more purposeful look at the rear of the truck.

Two Brand-New V8 Engines

For the first time since the 1999 model year, a 5.3-liter V8 will not be available in the Silverado. The new mainstream V8 is a 5.7-liter unit, while a 6.6-liter V8 replaces the outgoing 6.2-liter engine — both described as the most powerful naturally-aspirated V8s in their class.

The turbocharged 2.7-liter TurboMax four-cylinder carries over and currently produces 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque in its existing form. The segment-exclusive 3.0-liter Duramax turbodiesel inline-six also returns, currently rated at 305 horsepower and 495 pound-feet of torque with up to 29 miles per gallon on the highway.

All four engine options for 2027 are now paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission — the TurboMax steps up from the current 8-speed unit, bringing the entire lineup into alignment. Chevrolet has not yet released detailed power figures for the new V8 engines but confirmed the motors have undergone extensive testing and validation.

A Dramatically Upgraded Interior

Every 2027 Silverado 1500 now comes standard with a class-leading 16.3-inch center display and a 12.2-inch driver information center — a significant jump from the previous generation's entry-level 7-inch touchscreen and maximum 13.4-inch display.

On ZR2 and High Country trims, an 11.5-inch front passenger screen comes standard — a first for the Silverado nameplate — paired with a heads-up display and a digital rearview mirror. Despite the screen-heavy approach, physical knobs, switches, and buttons are retained throughout the cabin, including for climate control.

The High Country trim receives a panoramic sunroof for the first time in Silverado history. Two interior themes — light and dark — are available, with natural tan-edged seatbelts, real wood décor, Tritan Satin accents, and available microfiber suede materials giving the cabin a genuinely premium feel.

The ZR2's interior features Torch Red accents, Torch Red-edged seatbelts, real forged carbon-fiber trim on the doors and center console — the first-ever use of true forged carbon décor on a ZR2 and GM's first application of the material in any vehicle — alongside dual wireless charging and large digital displays dedicated to off-road and vehicle data.

Seven Trims, Three Lifted Options

The 2027 Silverado 1500 will be offered in seven trim levels: Work Truck, Custom, Trail Boss, Custom Trail Boss, Silverado (replacing the former LT designation), ZR2, and High Country. Three of those seven trims are lifted configurations, reflecting strong consumer demand for off-road-capable versions of full-size trucks.

The Custom Trail Boss serves as the entry point into the rugged truck lineup, featuring a 2-inch suspension lift and 34-inch tires. The ZR2 — Chevrolet's most off-road capable Silverado ever — now rides on 35-inch mud-terrain tires and features an off-road hood with a new power dome.

The 2027 Silverado will also offer hands-free towing technology, adding a significant capability upgrade for drivers who regularly haul trailers.

Production and Pricing

GM has confirmed that production of the 2027 Silverado is slated to begin in mid-Q4 2026, with pricing and availability details to be announced later in the year.

The truck will be built at GM's full-size truck assembly facilities in Flint, Michigan, and Fort Wayne, Indiana. Production of the Silverado EV has been indefinitely paused beginning in 2027, though there are reportedly hybridized powertrains in development that may be announced in the near future.
