The "Little House on the Prairie" star announced her departure through an emotional Instagram post on Tuesday, sharing glimpses of her moving process with followers. The 61-year-old actress documented stacks of packed boxes, empty rooms, and wrapped furniture as she prepared to leave the one-bedroom residence she shared with actor Timothy Busfield.

Gilbert's social media post showed her lying on the floor beside packed belongings, offering a candid look at the transition. The images captured her bedroom with a mattress leaning against the wall, an almost empty bathroom, and a living room filled with flattened cardboard boxes and furniture ready for transport.

"So long perfect little one bedroom apartment on the Upper West Side. The last eight years here have been so special," Gilbert wrote in her caption. She reflected on her time in the city, noting the significant work she accomplished in New York's theaters and soundstages, along with memorable dinners and nights spent with friends.

The actress expressed what she will miss most about her urban lifestyle, including walking through the neighborhood, riding the subway, and connecting with the diverse community she encountered daily. She bid farewell to local businesses she frequented, including her favorite newsstand, bodega, dance studio, laundry service, shoe repair shop, dry cleaners, and nail salon.

"You can feel it in your heart," Gilbert wrote about the city's energy. "Goodbye sweet neighbors whom we love so much. And a very fond 'farewell and see you soon' to our favorite city in the world."

While Gilbert assured followers she would return to New York eventually, she indicated that current circumstances require her to relocate full-time to the couple's upstate New York property. Court documents indicate that Busfield was initially arrested on January 13 on two counts of criminal sexual contact of a minor and one count of child abuse. A warrant issued on January 9 alleged that Busfield engaged in unlawful sexual conduct with 11-year-old twin boys.

Following a pretrial detention hearing in Bernalillo County, New Mexico, Busfield was released from custody one week after his initial arrest. The legal proceedings continued to escalate when a New Mexico grand jury formally charged him on February 6 with four counts of criminal sexual contact with a child under 13.

Busfield has consistently denied all allegations against him. His legal team has filed a motion to quash the grand jury indictment, challenging the validity of the charges. The case is currently scheduled to proceed to trial in May 2027, leaving a significant period before any resolution is reached.
