Television host Ryan Seacrest has revealed he was forced to back out of Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce's star-studded wedding after a work commitment with Disney made attendance impossible .

The American Idol host had originally RSVP'd "yes" to the couple's July 3 ceremony at New York City's Madison Square Garden. However, a last-minute booking to host Disney's Fourth of July 250 special in Nashville put an end to those plans .

"I RSVP'd to go, and then Disney hired me to do the Fourth of July 250 special on the 3rd and the 4th, so I had to cancel," Seacrest explained on his radio show, On Air With Ryan Seacrest . "And so, I had to cancel."

The timing proved particularly awkward. After initially confirming his attendance, Seacrest ran into Swift and Kelce at a restaurant. The singer enthusiastically told him about the celebration they had planned .

"She was like, 'Oh, it's going to be so much fun. We're going to have the best time. It's going to go late,'" Seacrest recalled . He met Kelce for the first time that evening as the couple sat in the booth next to him .

Seacrest emphasized he explored every possible option before accepting his invitation was impossible to honor . "Trust me, I went through the minutes. I couldn't have done both," he said, noting the wedding took place in the afternoon while his live broadcast began on July 3 .

The host kept the invitation entirely confidential, as the couple required all guests to maintain privacy about the event . "I had to keep it secret. It was a confidential invitation to everybody that was invited," Seacrest stated .

This was not the first time Seacrest had discussed the couple's wedding plans. In October 2025, following Swift's engagement announcement, he had offered his services as an officiant during an appearance on his show . Swift responded politely to the offer but the couple ultimately selected actor Adam Sandler to officiate their ceremony .

The wedding itself drew approximately 1,000 guests to Madison Square Garden . Notable attendees included members of Kelce's Kansas City Chiefs family such as quarterback Patrick Mahomes and head coach Andy Reid .

Other celebrities spotted at the event included Selena Gomez, Paul McCartney, Stevie Nicks, Steven Spielberg, and Tom Hanks . Adam Sandler officiated the ceremony while Swift's brother Austin served as her "man of honor" and Kelce's brother Jason acted as best man .

Seacrest was not alone among the invited who had to miss the event . Actor Robert Pattinson reportedly could not attend due to filming commitments for Batman, and musician James Taylor also declined his invitation . In a performance at Tanglewood, Taylor explained he had to perform at the music festival instead .

"Part of my job at Disney," Seacrest said, explaining his obligation to host his network's holiday special . He maintained he was "so honored and thrilled to be invited" despite being unable to attend .
