Pop star Carly Rae Jepsen has announced her highly anticipated return to music with the upcoming release of her eighth studio album, Day and Night. The 24-track double album is scheduled for release on September 18 via Interscope Records and marks her first full-length project since 2023 .
The announcement, which the "Call Me Maybe" singer made on Monday, June 22, confirms that the ambitious project will be split into two distinct halves, each comprising 12 songs. According to a press release from her label, the "Day" portion of the album is described as "organic and raw, with live instrumentation and hints of '70s-inspired psychedelic pop." In contrast, the "Night" side is characterized as "exploratory and intense, shifting into a sleek, synth-driven world of dance pop" .
Fans will not have to wait long for a preview of the new musical era. Jepsen is set to release the project's lead single, "On Wires," this Friday, June 26 . The release will offer the first glimpse into the sonic landscape the singer has been crafting for her upcoming project.
The Grammy-nominated artist confirmed the news herself on social media, expressing her excitement directly to her followers. "It’s a double album baby!" Jepsen, who turned 40 this year, wrote in her announcement post. "You guessed it right. Day and Night arrives September 18th and I couldn’t be more proud. We kick things off this Friday w our first single 'On Wires'" .
Jepsen has been teasing this new chapter for the past several weeks. Earlier this month, she hinted at the project's theme by playing snippets of two different instrumentals on her official website, timed to correspond with the day and night cycle. She also engaged fans with a series of social media posts featuring postcard-like images, each captioned with a lyric, location, and timestamp .
The new album follows her 2023 project The Loveliest Time, which served as a companion piece to 2022's The Loneliest Time. To support the release, Jepsen is scheduled to make her first live appearance of 2026 with a headlining set at New York City's All Things Go Festival on September 27. She will top a lineup that also includes Zara Larsson, Lola Young, Brandi Carlile, and Muna .
