Romeo Beckham Makes Screen Debut in Tennis Romance 'Forty Love,' Playing Opposite French Star in Gay Love Story

Romeo Beckham, the 23-year-old son of David and Victoria Beckham, is preparing for his feature film debut in the upcoming French sports romance "Forty Love," taking on a role that challenges both his acting abilities and the boundaries of conventional sports dramas.

The film, directed by fashion photographer-turned-filmmaker Pierre-Ange Carlotti, marks a significant departure for the younger Beckham, who has previously pursued careers in professional football, tennis, and high-fashion modeling before landing his first leading screen role.

"Forty Love" follows Sacha Gallo, portrayed by French actor Paul Kircher, as he trains relentlessly with his father-coach in pursuit of Grand Slam glory on the clay courts of Paris. The rising tennis star's world is upended when Beckham's character—a charismatic newcomer—appears as both a rival and an unexpected romantic interest that forces Gallo to question everything he thought he knew about competition and desire.

"For the first time, he faces an opponent of an entirely different nature—love," the film's synopsis reads. "A force as exhilarating as it is destabilizing—and far more dangerous than anything he has encountered on the court".

The film, which is currently in post-production and slated for a theatrical release in France on November 25, also features acclaimed actors Guillaume Canet, Benjamin Voisin, and includes a cameo appearance from French cinema legend Catherine Deneuve. Director Carlotti co-wrote the screenplay alongside Gaëlle Macé, with a musical score composed by 070 Shake and Johan Lenox.

Producers Hugo Sélignac and Paco de Bary, working through Chi-Fou-Mi Productions in partnership with Studiocanal and Manna Studios, described the project as a "sensual, romantic and deeply moving romantic fable and coming-of-age story" that explores the "demands of high-level sport, and everything that lies beneath the surface".

Beckham's transition to acting follows a winding career path that began in football with Arsenal's academy and later the reserve team for Brentford. He briefly pursued tennis, even training with former world No. 1 Andy Murray during his teenage years, before pivoting to the fashion industry. In recent years, he has modeled for Balenciaga and Versace and launched his own collection, mirroring the career trajectory of his mother, Victoria, who transitioned from pop stardom to high fashion.

The announcement has generated considerable social media discussion, with some fans praising the bold career pivot while others have noted the role's casting implications. One user commented that Beckham's character as a "charismatic rival" represented "the most on the nose role they could've picked for him," while others expressed excitement about the project's exploration of queer romance in elite sports.

"Forty Love" represents a growing trend of French cinema exploring LGBTQ+ themes within the high-stakes world of professional athletics. Studiocanal, which is handling worldwide distribution, will release the film in French theaters this November, with international release plans yet to be announced.

As the Beckham family continues to expand its entertainment industry footprint beyond sports and fashion, Romeo's acting debut positions him as the latest member of the famous clan to venture into film—following in the footsteps of neither his football legend father nor his Spice Girl-turned-designer mother, but carving a distinct path of his own on the silver screen.
