The sands of Malibu are once again graced by the unmistakable silhouette of the Baywatch red swimsuit, as model and actress Brooks Nader channels the spirit of Pamela Anderson while filming the highly anticipated television reboot. Photos from the set on June 24 captured the 29-year-old Sports Illustrated cover star in the signature high-cut, plunging-neckline one-piece that became a global pop culture phenomenon in the 1990s.
Nader was seen effortlessly working the beach between takes, her blonde hair styled in loose waves as she embodied the sun-soaked aesthetic that made the original series a worldwide hit. When cameras weren't rolling, she stayed warm in a black coat and brown boots while her glam squad made touch-ups to hair and makeup.
The Louisiana native, who competed on Season 33 of "Dancing with the Stars," has embraced the role of Selene, described as the sharp-tongued captain of the Zuma Beach lifeguards. Her character is a "total boss" who brings both sass and authority to the shoreline, according to interviews she has given during the production's early stages.
For Nader, wearing the legendary swimsuit marked what she described as an "out-of-body experience" when filming began back in March. The moment proved so emotional that even the wardrobe team was moved to tears.
"They were like, 'This is so big and this is so exciting,'" Nader shared during an interview with PEOPLE magazine. She emphasized the exceptional energy on set, noting, "The energy with the cast and the crew and everyone involved is just spectacular, and everyone's so excited to see it all come to life."
The reboot, co-produced by Fox Entertainment and Fremantle, consists of 12 episodes and follows a new generation of lifeguards managing complex personal lives while protecting the shores of Venice Beach. The series is scheduled to premiere on Fox in January 2027 and will also be available for streaming on Hulu.
The cast brings together an eclectic mix of talent, including Stephen Amell in the lead role of Hobie Buchannon, the son of David Hasselhoff's iconic character Mitch Buchannon. The series marks a continuation of the original show's legacy, following an adult Hobie who has followed in his father's footsteps to become a captain himself.
Joining Nader and Amell are Shay Mitchell, known for her work on "Pretty Little Liars," along with social media influencer Noah Beck, gymnast Livvy Dunne, Jessica Belkin, Ashley Moore, Hassie Harrison, and Thaddeus LaGrone. The production has also brought back original series stars David Chokachi, Erika Eleniak, and Kelly Packard, providing a meaningful connection to the franchise's roots.
The cast underwent rigorous preparation for their roles, including several weeks of lifeguard and swim training. Nader, who has been open about her swimming skills initially being a work in progress, took the responsibility seriously after hearing from one of the franchise's founders about the real-world impact the original show had on viewers.
"He told us day one when we were learning CPR, 'Actually pay attention to the skill of CPR and how you actually administer it because we've had hundreds of letters a day sent to the Baywatch franchise from people all over the world saying, I saved my daughter's life because I watched Baywatch and I learned CPR,'" she recalled.
The model confessed to idolizing original stars Pamela Anderson and Carmen Electra during her younger years, studying their every move on the series, especially the iconic running scenes. "I've been doing this since I was like two years old," she said. "I've been ready for this. I've been watching the videos of Pam and Carmen Electra. I'm ready for this."
The choice of Nader for the role brings a full-circle moment for the model, who coincidentally wore a red one-piece for her Sports Illustrated Swimsuit cover years ago. Her family shared in the emotional significance, with her sisters reportedly breaking down in tears during a FaceTime call when they saw her in the iconic suit.
The reboot arrives at a time when nostalgia for the franchise remains strong, with the original series having aired from 1989 to 2001 and spawning a feature film in 2017. The new series aims to capture the spirit that made the original a global phenomenon while introducing fresh conflicts and character dynamics for modern audiences.
Nader has promised viewers an exciting show filled with hard work and dedication from the entire cast and crew. "I think everyone's going to love the show, and everyone's working really hard," she said. "So it's exciting."
As production continues in Southern California, the sight of the red swimsuit on the beach serves as a powerful reminder of why Baywatch became a cultural touchstone. With its blend of nostalgia and fresh talent, the reboot is positioning itself as one of the most anticipated television premieres of 2027.
