Detroit Lions cornerback Terrion Arnold remains in custody in Florida after a judge ordered him held without bond during his first court appearance on Thursday. The 23-year-old NFL player faces multiple felony charges related to an alleged kidnapping and armed robbery that occurred in February.
Arnold is scheduled for a pretrial detention hearing on Monday morning, where prosecutors will argue that he should remain jailed until his trial . Hillsborough County State Attorney Suzy Lopez has indicated that her office will seek to keep the cornerback in custody pending the resolution of the case.
The charges against Arnold stem from a February 4 incident in Tampa, where authorities say three men in their late teens were held at gunpoint, battered, and pistol-whipped inside an apartment . Police allege the attack was retaliation for a theft at an Airbnb rental property in nearby Largo just three days earlier.
According to investigators, Arnold reported that personal property valued at more than $250,000 was stolen from the Largo rental on February 1 . The stolen items reportedly included designer bags, jewelry, cash, and an NFL-issued phone .
Authorities allege Arnold and his associates coordinated a plan to confront three individuals they believed were responsible. Police later determined that the victims had no involvement in the original theft .
Tampa Police have identified Arnold as the "primary conspirator" in the attack, describing it as a "targeted armed robbery" . Investigators say the incident was streamed to Arnold via FaceTime as it unfolded, and that he allegedly issued instructions through a group chat during the assault .
Arnold turned himself in to authorities on Wednesday and was booked at Orient Road Jail in Hillsborough County . During Thursday's hearing, defense attorney R. Timothy Jansen told the court that his client "absolutely denies" the allegations .
Prosecutors have filed four counts of kidnapping and four counts of armed robbery against Arnold. The charges carry a potential sentence of up to life in prison if convicted .
At least seven people face charges in connection with the case. Two co-defendants, Arianna Del Valle and Jasmine Randazzo, pleaded guilty on Wednesday and have agreed to cooperate with prosecutors . Randazzo was immediately sentenced to four years in prison for kidnapping, conspiracy, and robbery with a firearm .
The remaining four co-defendants are being held without bond as they await trial . Prosecutors state the investigation included cell phone evidence and witness testimony that established Arnold's role in planning and directing the alleged crimes .
Arnold's representatives have strongly denied his involvement. Denise White, CEO of EAG Sports Management, which represents the cornerback, issued a statement challenging the credibility of the prosecution's evidence.
"There is no credible evidence linking Mr. Arnold to these allegations," White said. "Instead, the government appears to be relying on testimony from multiple convicted felons who have admitted their own involvement and may have substantial incentives to shift blame in an effort to lessen their sentences" .
The statement added that Arnold "looks forward to his day in court and is confident that the judicial process will lead to his ultimate vindication" .
The Detroit Lions have acknowledged the situation but declined to comment extensively. The organization issued a brief statement saying it is aware of the legal situation but will not comment "out of respect for the ongoing legal process" .
Arnold was selected by the Lions in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft following a collegiate career at the University of Alabama . He appeared in 24 games over two seasons with Detroit, recording 31 tackles and one interception in 2025 before undergoing season-ending shoulder surgery .
State Attorney Suzy Lopez condemned the alleged actions in a statement, emphasizing that "no one has the right to take the law into their own hands. A dispute over missing property does not justify kidnapping, violence or retaliation" .
Monday's pretrial detention hearing will determine whether Arnold will remain in custody as the case proceeds.
