Lionel Richie Triumphantly Returns to Stage After Health Scare Forces Tour Delay

Lionel Richie is back on the road and performing again, just days after a frightening health incident forced him to cut short the opening night of his highly anticipated tour. The 77-year-old music legend took the stage at Pittsburgh's PPG Paints Arena on June 30, appearing energetic and in good spirits as he resumed the Sing A Song All Night Long Tour alongside Earth, Wind & Fire .

Fan footage from the Pittsburgh show captured Richie performing hits like "Stuck on You" and "Easy," showing no signs of the illness that had sidelined him the previous week . The Grammy-winning singer even acknowledged the incident with his signature humor, telling the crowd, "I had you worried there for a minute, huh?" . He also quipped that he had spent the last 24 hours listening to friends offer advice on what he should be doing, noting that he went ahead with the performance anyway .

The scare began on June 24 during the tour's opening stop in St. Paul, Minnesota. Richie was approximately an hour into his set at the Grand Casino Arena when he began to feel dizzy while performing his 1986 hit "Dancing on the Ceiling" . Video from the concert showed Richie sitting down on a platform, telling the audience, "When you're feeling dizzy, sit your ass down" . He managed to finish the song while seated and even performed "Three Times a Lady" at the piano before calling for an unexpected intermission . The concert never resumed, with saxophonist Dino Soldo later informing the crowd that Richie was too unwell to continue . Reports confirmed that paramedics evaluated the singer backstage before transporting him to a hospital as a precaution .

Following the incident, doctors advised Richie to rest, leading to the postponement of shows in Chicago and Columbus, Ohio, which were scheduled for June 26 and June 27 . Tour organizer Live Nation confirmed that Richie was "heartbroken" to postpone the dates but emphasized that he needed time to recover . Officials have since announced rescheduled dates for the affected stops, with the Chicago show now set for September 30 .

Before his return to the stage, Richie's ex-wife, Brenda Harvey Richie, offered a reassuring update on social media, stating, "Lionel is OK and will be back on the stage" . The tour, which features 26 dates across North America, is scheduled to continue through August, with upcoming performances in Detroit, Toronto, and Boston .
