The upcoming "Ocean's Eleven" prequel continues to build an impressive ensemble, with Monica Barbaro signing on to join the growing cast.
Barbaro, who earned an Academy Award nomination in 2025 for her performance in "A Complete Unknown," will appear alongside Bradley Cooper, Margot Robbie, and fellow Oscar nominee Wagner Moura in the Warner Bros. project . The untitled prequel is scheduled for release on June 25, 2027 .
Cooper is directing the film from his own screenplay, which draws on characters originally created by George Clayton Johnson and Jack Golden Russell . The project marks Cooper's fourth directorial outing, following "A Star Is Born," "Maestro," and "Is This Thing On?" . He is also producing alongside Robbie through her LuckyChap production company .
Robbie previously offered a glimpse of the film's setting during Warner Bros.' CinemaCon presentation this spring. She revealed that the prequel will follow Danny Ocean's parents in their prime as they plan an ambitious heist at the 1962 Monaco Grand Prix . The story takes place before Danny Ocean's famous Las Vegas casino robberies, exploring the origins of his criminal expertise .
The casting of Barbaro adds to what has become an Academy Award-laden production. Cooper has received twelve Oscar nominations across acting, producing, and writing categories, while Robbie has three nominations to her name . Moura earned his first Oscar nomination this year for "The Secret Agent" .
Barbaro arrives on the project following a successful run in "Les Liaisons Dangereuses" at London's National Theatre alongside Lesley Manville and Aidan Turner . She will next appear opposite Callum Turner in Universal's romantic comedy "One Night Only," scheduled for release on August 7 . She is also set to portray former OpenAI executive Mira Murati in Luca Guadagnino's upcoming film "Artificial" .
The actress first gained widespread recognition for her breakout role as naval pilot Natasha "Phoenix" Trace in 2022's "Top Gun: Maverick" . Her star-making performance as folk singer Joan Baez opposite Timothée Chalamet in James Mangold's Bob Dylan biopic "A Complete Unknown" earned her critical acclaim and her first Academy Award nomination .
Production is expected to begin soon, with the film remaining one of Warner Bros.' top priorities ahead of its summer 2027 release .
