Blake Lively and Taylor Swift's Decade-Long Friendship Reportedly Ends Amid Legal Turmoil and Wedding Snub

The absence of Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds from Taylor Swift's wedding to Travis Kelce at Madison Square Garden on Friday has confirmed what insiders have quietly suggested for months: one of Hollywood's most high-profile friendships has reached its conclusion.

While Swift celebrated her marriage to the Kansas City Chiefs star surrounded by hundreds of A-list guests in Manhattan, Lively, 38, and Reynolds, 49, were spotted roughly four and a half hours away in Lake Placid, New York. The couple was photographed cheering on their six-year-old daughter Betty at a horse show, where the young equestrian placed second in her competition. The couple also share daughters James, 11, and Inez, 9, and son Olin, 3.

Their absence from Swift's wedding came as little surprise to those following the unraveling of the once-close bond. Multiple outlets confirmed last month that Lively had not been invited to the ceremony, and sources close to Swift have now shed light on the reasons behind the snub.

"Taylor's in a different place now and she just wants to be around people she trusts and who bring her peace," an insider explained. "It's a shame because she and Blake really were close, but she doesn't think it's something that's going to be fixed. As far as Taylor's concerned, their friendship is done."

The breakdown reportedly did not stem from a single dramatic incident but rather from a series of accumulating events. The source described the deterioration as gradual, noting that by the time Swift was finalizing her wedding guest list, she recognized that she no longer wanted certain dynamics surrounding such a significant life milestone.

The fissure between the two women became public in 2025 when Swift was unexpectedly pulled into Lively's legal battle with "It Ends With Us" director Justin Baldoni. Baldoni had filed a $400 million lawsuit against Lively, Reynolds, and their publicist, which was later dismissed. During the proceedings, text messages between Lively and Swift were exposed in which Lively referred to the pop star and Reynolds as her "most trusted partners" and described herself as having "dragons" who protect those she fights for.

Swift was issued a subpoena to appear as a witness in May 2025 before it was later withdrawn. Additional private messages between the two women were unsealed in January 2026, further straining the relationship.

A source previously told PEOPLE that Swift "was just being a friend to Blake, and it's turned into something bigger than she ever expected. She never thought private messages would become public."

The two women have not been photographed together since 2024, and Lively was notably absent from Swift's bachelorette celebrations last month.

The wedding itself brought an unexpected reunion of its own. Karlie Kloss, once a central figure in Swift's inner circle before a widely reported falling-out, was among the guests, suggesting that some fractured relationships may be on the mend.

The star-studded guest list also included Bradley Cooper, Gigi Hadid, Lena Dunham, Dakota Johnson, Hugh Grant, Graham Norton, Ellie Goulding, Miranda Lambert, Kelsea Ballerini, Ed Sheeran and wife Cherry Seaborn, and Swift's childhood best friend Abigail Anderson.

Adam Sandler officiated the ceremony, while Swift's brother Austin served as man of honour and Jason Kelce took on the role of best man.

For Lively and Reynolds, the day was spent in the Adirondack Mountains watching their daughter compete. For Swift, it marked the beginning of a new chapter surrounded by those she has chosen to keep close. The distance between the two, both geographically and personally, has never been more apparent.
