King Charles Celebrates ‘Enduring Bond’ with U.S. in 250th Independence Day Message

King Charles III extended his "warmest congratulations" to President Donald Trump and the American people on Saturday as the United States marked the 250th anniversary of its independence, a milestone he described as a moment of "great celebration for Americans everywhere" .

In a message shared on the Fourth of July, the British monarch reflected on the "extraordinary evolution" of the U.S.-UK relationship, noting that the two nations had overcome conflict to forge what he called one of the closest and most productive alliances in history . "Through centuries of shared challenge and achievement, our nations have built a relationship founded on friendship, trust and a belief in liberty," the King wrote .

The message also referenced the King and Queen Camilla's state visit to the United States in April. During that trip, Charles addressed a joint meeting of Congress and attended a state banquet at the White House, where he praised the deep ties uniting the two countries across defense, trade, science, and culture . "We were proud, and honoured, to be able to celebrate this special anniversary during our visit," the message said .

The April visit, which followed President Trump's second state visit to the UK in September 2025, was seen as a significant effort to reaffirm transatlantic ties amid political differences . The King highlighted the importance of democratic institutions and shared values, adding, "As we look ahead to the next 250 years, I have no doubt we will continue to defend our shared values" .

"The connection between our peoples is one that I trust will only grow stronger with time," Charles concluded, signing the letter simply, "Charles R." . The message was released shortly after the conclusion of Royal Week, also known as Holyrood Week, in Scotland.
