Prince Harry’s Children Reportedly ‘Very Excited’ to Meet King Charles, But UK Reunion Hopes Fade Over Security Fears

Prince Harry is set to return to the United Kingdom for a series of engagements next week, but he will be traveling alone after a decision was made that it would not be safe for Meghan Markle and their two children to accompany him . The last-minute change has cast doubt on a potential reunion between King Charles III and his grandchildren, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, who have not seen him in person for four years .

According to friends of the Sussex family, the couple's children are reportedly "very excited" about the idea of seeing their grandfather . However, an insider revealed that the young royals are largely unaware of their connection to the British monarchy and are being raised to live as normal children away from the royal spotlight . "The truth is they don’t really have any concept about who they are," a source told a media outlet, explaining that their parents are "very good at keeping them away from it all" .

The Duke of Sussex is due to arrive in London on Monday to begin a five-day visit focused on his charitable work, including events for the Invictus Games Foundation and his patronages . While he was initially expected to travel with his wife and children, the plans were disrupted following the rejection of a request for taxpayer-funded police protection during their stay in London . The decision, made by the government-mandated Royal and VIP Executive Committee (RAVEC), has created significant security challenges for the family's private team .

King Charles reportedly offered the family accommodation at a secure royal residence, but representatives for the Duke maintained that risk attaches to the person, not the location, making the arrangement inadequate for public engagements . While Meghan and the children will not travel to the capital, sources indicate that the possibility of them joining Harry elsewhere in the UK, such as Birmingham for the Invictus Games events later in the week, has not been entirely ruled out .

The situation has been described as a source of frustration at Buckingham Palace, as the King has no plans to alter his busy schedule of official engagements to accommodate a private meeting . Palace insiders have noted that the lack of clear communication and the chaotic planning have made it "immensely difficult" to arrange any face-to-face meeting between the monarch and his son's family . For now, a long-awaited reunion between King Charles and his American grandchildren appears highly unlikely.
