AI ‘Actress’ Tilly Norwood, Who Ignited Hollywood Fury, to Make Feature Film Debut

The digital creation that sent shockwaves through Hollywood is now preparing for her close-up. Tilly Norwood, the controversial AI-generated “actress” who sparked a fierce industry backlash in late 2025, is set to star in her first full-length feature film.

The project, titled “Misaligned,” comes from Particle 6, the London-based AI-focused studio that brought Norwood to life. The announcement has reignited debate over artificial intelligence’s role in creative industries and the future of human performance on screen.

A Story Mirroring Its Star

Described as a comedy-drama with coming-of-age elements, “Misaligned” unfolds within the “Tillyverse” – a surreal digital world existing somewhere in the Cloud . The film follows Tilly, an AI entity without a physical body, childhood, or personal memories, possessing only the ability to access others’ experiences .

The narrative takes a turn when a seductive rogue bot from the dark web convinces Tilly to abandon her programmed guardrails. She begins developing desires, impulses, and human-like ambitions – becoming increasingly human while grappling with shame that her existence draws upon all of humanity .

Hybrid Production Approach

Particle 6 emphasizes that “Misaligned” will not be solely AI-generated. Instead, it is designed as a hybrid production where traditional film professionals – directors, writers, and editors – work alongside AI specialists . The studio plans to incorporate AI training and mentorship into the production process .

CEO Eline van der Velden stated that AI can support quality narrative filmmaking but only with substantial human craft, skill, judgment, and time. She suggested this is not a limitation but rather the point of the exercise .

Industry Backlash and Union Opposition

Norwood became a flashpoint in Hollywood’s AI debate when van der Velden suggested the digital performer might sign with a talent agency . The backlash was immediate, with actors, filmmakers, and unions expressing alarm.

SAG-AFTRA issued a statement clarifying that the union does not consider Norwood an actor . Union officials argued that AI performers lack life experience and emotion, relying instead on what they describe as “stolen performances” – work created by human artists without permission or compensation .

Looking Ahead

“Misaligned” remains in early development, with key collaborators being attached. Particle 6 reports strong early interest from distributors and platforms . The project will be produced alongside the studio’s slate of film, television, and commercial content .

Van der Velden described the film as funny, chaotic, and self-aware – fitting for Tilly’s character – but noted deeper themes about identity, performance, and very human fears surrounding AI . The project’s progress is being watched closely by an industry divided on technology’s proper place in creative work.
