Influencer Molly-Mae Hague has finally set the record straight regarding the unique name she and her fiancé, boxer Tommy Fury, chose for their newborn son. The 27-year-old mother of two revealed in a candid new YouTube vlog that the inspiration for the name Midas came not from Greek mythology, as many had speculated, but from a 2011 science-fiction film about boxing robots.

Hague, who rose to fame on the reality dating show "Love Island," welcomed her second child with Fury earlier this month. The couple, who are already parents to two-year-old daughter Bambi, announced their son's arrival on social media before Fury proudly debuted the baby's name on his fight shorts during his bout against Eddie Hall in Manchester on June 13.

In her latest vlog, Hague addressed the widespread rumors that her son was named after the mythical King Midas from Greek legend. The ancient story tells of a king who was granted the ability to turn everything he touched into gold, a gift that ultimately became a curse. While the phrase "the Midas touch" has come to symbolize great success, the original fable serves as a cautionary tale against greed.

"I saw a couple of comments when the name was being rumoured about how the name originates from Greek mythology because there was a king called King Midas," Hague explained in the video. "I believe the story is that everything he touches turns to gold, and I do absolutely just like love that saying."

However, she was quick to clarify that the mythological figure was not the source of their inspiration. "The same way Bambi is not necessarily named after the Disney character Bambi, is the same way Midas is not named after the Greek King," she stated. "This is the most random story. I actually found the name from watching a film called Real Steel."

A Sci-Fi Origin

Hague described the film, which stars Hugh Jackman and Evangeline Lilly, as an unexpected favorite of hers. "It's basically like Transformers," she said. "It's the most not me film ever. It's got Hugh Jackman in it, and it's a film about robots boxing. And one of the robots in the film that was boxing was called Midas."

She revealed that the name resonated with her years ago when she first watched the movie. "I heard the name, and I thought this was years ago. I was like, 'Wow, that's a really cool strong name,'" Hague recalled. "Like Midas, I've never heard of that before. I just thought Midas Fury, I thought, 'Wow, what a strong name.'"

The influencer mentioned that she mentioned the name to Tommy, who "absolutely fell in love with it." The couple had apparently settled on the name years ago, keeping it reserved for a future son. "That was always our boy name really that we stuck with," Hague confirmed.

The couple welcomed their son, whose full name is Midas Thomas Fury, on June 3. The birth took place at the prestigious Portland Hospital in London, which offers luxury birthing packages costing up to £30,000. Less than two weeks after giving birth, Hague was seen supporting Fury from ringside at his fight against Hall, a former World’s Strongest Man title holder.

The vlog offered fans a glimpse into the couple's decision-making process, including a nod to the "Midas touch" concept. Hague revealed that a patch bearing the phrase "everything he touches turns into gold" was sewn inside Fury's fight kit. "When Tommy wears his kit tomorrow, inside the kit, when we were designing it, we put a little patch inside that says everything he touches turns into gold because I do just think it's so special," she said.

Fans had previously speculated about the name's meaning, with some expressing concerns over the negative connotations of the mythological King Midas. However, Hague's explanation has provided clarity for those who were puzzled by the unconventional choice.

The family is currently settling into life as a family of four. Hague expressed her gratitude for her son's health and shared that the family is "so happy" following his arrival. The couple's eldest daughter, Bambi, has reportedly been adjusting well to her new role as a big sister.

Hague's YouTube channel, where she frequently shares lifestyle content and personal updates, has become a platform for her to connect directly with her millions of followers. Her latest vlog not only addressed the name controversy but also offered a heartfelt update on her postpartum journey and the joy of expanding her family.
