The music producer shares how his mother saw the future with the pop superstar while he was still dating someone else.

Benny Blanco's mother apparently knew he would marry Selena Gomez long before the couple ever started dating. The music producer recently opened up about the surprising moment his mom planted the seed for their eventual romance while he was still in another relationship.

During a June 23 episode of his podcast Friends Keep Secrets, Blanco, 38, recalled that his mother Sandra Levin made a bold prediction in 2019. The producer was working with Gomez on a music video shoot when his mom offered unsolicited advice about his love life .

"2019, I'm shooting a video with Selena. I'm dating someone else, ok?" Blanco said on the podcast. "My mom's on the video shoot and she says, she's just sitting there, she's like, 'Hon, you should marry Selena'" .

The producer admitted he was taken aback by the suggestion at the time. He responded with confusion, to which his mother elaborated that he should consider dating someone like the Only Murders in the Building star .

At that point in their professional relationship, Blanco and Gomez were friendly colleagues but not close friends. The producer acknowledged that he had always admired the singer-actress, noting he found her exceptionally impressive during their collaborations .

"There was like two times in my life where I left a specific session or late video with her where I was like, 'Wow, she's so cool. She's like really cool,'" Blanco recalled .

The producer's mother saw qualities in Gomez that she believed would make her a perfect match for her son. Levin praised the singer as someone with good judgment and a sweet personality .

Blanco confirmed that his mother's instincts were ahead of their time. "My mom planted the seed," he stated. "She was like, 'She's got her head on her shoulders.' She was like, 'She's so sweet, she's this and that'" .

The producer's admiration for Gomez persisted through other relationships. An ex-girlfriend reportedly reached out after his wedding and recalled how positively he spoke about Gomez even while they were dating years earlier .

Blanco and Gomez's relationship timeline began when they started dating in mid-2023. The couple confirmed their romance that December and announced their engagement in December 2024 .

The pair exchanged vows in September 2025 at the Sea Crest Nursery in Santa Barbara, California. The ceremony was officiated by Blanco's co-host Lil Dicky, who also served as best man, with around 170 guests in attendance .

Today, Blanco describes his wife as more than just a romantic partner. "Everyone says you always marry your best friend. That's how it works. And she's my best friend," he said during the podcast episode .

The couple's journey from professional collaborators to life partners reflects a story that seemed unlikely in 2019. At that time, Blanco was in another relationship, and he and Gomez had not yet developed the deep connection they now share.

Blanco credited his mother's intuition for planting the idea that eventually became reality. Her early recognition of Gomez's character and compatibility with her son proved remarkably prescient.

Friends Keep Secrets features Blanco alongside co-hosts Lil Dicky and Kristin Batalucco. The June 23 episode included special guests Breaking Bad actors Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul .

Blanco's revelation has generated significant interest, highlighting the unusual circumstances that led to his relationship with Gomez. The producer's willingness to share personal details has given fans a glimpse into their private life.

The couple continues to support each other's careers. Gomez is currently filming the fifth season of Only Murders in the Building in London, while Blanco remains focused on his music production work in the United States .

Despite initial skepticism from some fans, the couple has established themselves as one of entertainment's more solid partnerships. Their journey from collaborators to spouses shows how relationships can develop in unexpected ways.
