Reality television personality Karen Derrico has been arrested and charged with multiple criminal offenses following allegations that she made violent threats against her ex-husband and their children. The former star of TLC's "Doubling Down With the Derricos" was taken into custody in North Las Vegas, Nevada, on June 17 and faces a combination of felony and misdemeanor charges.
Prosecutors have charged the 46-year-old mother of 14 with two felony counts: preventing or dissuading a witness from testifying with the threat of physical force and aggravated stalking constituting domestic violence. Additionally, she faces misdemeanor charges of harassment and violating a temporary order for protection against domestic violence .
Threatening Communications Detailed in Court Documents
According to the criminal complaint filed in Clark County, authorities allege that Derrico sent multiple emails to her former husband, Deon Derrico, which contained explicit threats of violence. In one message, she reportedly wrote, "I want you dead. I could kill you and it won't even bother me to go to jail and I'll kill any of my kids if they take your side" .
The complaint further alleges that on May 2, Derrico threatened to prevent her ex-husband from appearing in court, reportedly telling him to "watch out" and that she planned to obtain a gun or arrange for someone to kill him before he could attend a legal proceeding . Court documents also indicate she violated a protective order issued in April 2026 by sending emails unrelated to parenting matters .
Prosecutors state that Deon Derrico reported feeling "terrorized, frightened, intimidated, harassed, or fearful" for himself and his family's safety. The allegations also include claims that Derrico made statements about harming his new girlfriend and expressed a desire for him to suffer a slow death .
Defense Maintains Client's Innocence
Derrico's attorney, Jess Marchese, has strongly contested the allegations, describing them as fabricated. In a statement to multiple news outlets, Marchese asserted that "The charges are total nonsense and fabricated by Mr. Derrico — the supposed 'victim.' This has everything to do with him being spiteful and malicious and nothing to do with him being frightened or harassed" .
The defense maintains that Deon Derrico may have sent the threatening messages to himself in an attempt to frame his ex-wife. Marchese stated that the defense team is working with technology experts to trace the emails' origins and prove they were faked . Derrico has pleaded not guilty to all charges and was released on a $2,000 bond, with the court requiring her to wear an ankle monitor .
Former Couple's Public Split
Karen and Deon Derrico were married in 2005 and filed for divorce in June 2024. The dissolution of their marriage was finalized that same month . According to court records, the couple agreed to share legal and physical custody of their 13 minor children, with Deon Derrico paying $1,166 per month in child support while Karen was responsible for the children's medical insurance .
Despite the divorce, sources indicate the former couple continued living together for financial reasons and to maintain family stability. The arrangement reportedly ended earlier this year when Karen moved out, taking four of the children with her . The family's dynamics were documented on TLC's "Doubling Down With the Derricos," which aired for five seasons from 2020 through 2024 .
Ongoing Legal Proceedings
Derrico was arraigned on June 23 and is scheduled to appear in court for a preliminary hearing on August 6 . An audio recording has also emerged in which Derrico reportedly made statements consistent with some allegations, though her attorney has dismissed the recording as an attempt to bait his client .
The case represents a dramatic escalation in the public dispute between the former reality television stars, who had previously maintained a commitment to co-parenting their large family following their divorce .
