The first and foremost condition for opening a cafe is the right place or location. Choose a place where there is high traffic like- near colleges and universities, corporate office areas or a popular tourist spot. Nowadays people go to cafes not only for coffee but also to spend time in beautiful surroundings and take pictures.
So it is very important that your cafe has a specific theme (eg retro, book cafe, or minimalistic) and attractive interior. The menu card should not be too big or complicated. Besides coffee and snacks, your cafe should have at least 2-3 'signature dishes' or drinks that are not available anywhere else and that people will come back for again and again.
Ensure all legal procedures and licenses before starting business. Prepare the necessary documents like Food License (FSSAI), Trade License, Fire Clearance and GST Registration in advance, so that there are no legal complications later. The success of the cafe depends a lot on the utilization and service of the staff.
Hire a skilled 'barista' (coffee maker) and a good chef. Also, train employees properly on how to treat customers politely and civilly. Fix initial budget including shop rent, interior, raw materials and staff salaries.
Remember, the first few months of starting a business may not be profitable. So hit the ground running with at least 6 months of back-up capital or cash-flow. Invest in a good quality commercial espresso machine, grinder and refrigerator to keep the coffee tasting right.
The quality of the equipment increases the speed of work and it is possible to provide fast and perfect service to the customer. Social media is the biggest tool of business promotion these days. Start promoting the cafe by opening a page on Instagram or Facebook even before the cafe opens.
Invite food bloggers and attract customers with attractive offers.
