Australian singer Cody Simpson has revealed that he is currently unable to walk or talk after suffering two significant injuries that have derailed his music comeback. The former boyfriend of Miley Cyrus shared the health update with his fans on Instagram .
Simpson, 29, explained that his troubles began with a vocal cord injury sustained while recording new music. He spent nearly three months on vocal rest in an attempt to heal the damage before doctors determined that surgery was necessary .
Just before the scheduled operation, Simpson dislocated his knee while rehearsing for a new music video. The new injury forced doctors to postpone the vocal cord surgery to allow his knee to heal .
"I can't walk or talk for some time now, and no singing or dancing for months to come," Simpson wrote in his Instagram post. He described the situation as "forced rest" after years of pushing his body and mind non-stop .
The former Olympic swimming hopeful had put his music career on hold to pursue his dream of competing in the Paris Olympics. After falling short of qualifying for the 2024 Games, he had returned to the studio and released new singles .
Despite the setbacks, Simpson remains optimistic about his future. "The album and live shows have to wait, but I've got some work to share while I'm down for the count. You can't hold me down! I'll be back stronger," he assured his followers .
The Australian pop star rose to fame as a teenager with hits like "La Da Dee" and "Home to Mama." He dated Miley Cyrus for approximately 10 months between 2019 and 2020 before their amicable split .
Simpson confirmed he still managed to film the music video for which he injured his knee, giving fans something to look forward to during his recovery period .
